About the Project

This blog is part of a research project which led to a PhD, co-funded by the Republic of Cyprus and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (RPF). The title of the project is "Postcolonial Communication: The impact of Territorial Conflicts on the Construction of National Mediascapes. Mediating Partition". The project started in April 2012 and was completed, December 2014.

The research was carried out by Dr Maria Avraamidou, under the supervision of Associate Professor at the Department of Communication and Internet Studies of TEPAK, Dr. Christopher Kyriakides and currently at the York University, Canada. The other members of the consortium are Dr. Rodolfo Torres, Professor of Planning, Policy and Design and Political Science and Director of Urban Studies at the University of California-Irvine, Dr. Olga Demetriou, social anthropologist at the University of Nicosia and Dr. Mimis Sophoclesous, Scientific Director of the Historical Archive Museum and Center of Research and Scientific Consultant for the formation of the School of Fine and Applied Arts at TEPAK.

The postcolonial communication blog aimed at informing about the progress of the project by publishing preliminary and final research findings. Additionally, it aimed at serving as a useful online resource for early career scholars and the general public, on topics evolving around postcolonialism, nationalism and the media, with an emphasis on postcolonial Cyprus. For this purpose a number of useful links and bibliographical references are provided along with updates about publications and conference participation.
